The International Accountability Project and Sustentarse, two co-administrators of the Early Warning System initiative (EWS) in Latin America and the Caribbean, held a series of conversations with civil society organizations and community members on how to better assist communities that are adversely impacted by projects financed by development finance institutions.

The Early Warning System is an initiative that ensures local communities, and the organizations that support them, have verified information about projects being proposed at major development finance institutions and clear strategies for advocacy — ideally, before funding is decided. The webinars shared how the Early Warning System could be used as a tool to respond to community needs. The discussions also explored how activists and civil society organizations can be a part of the outreach community of the system and regularly receive information about newly proposed projects.

Through the webinars and continued outreach to local communities, the Early Warning System network of allies and partners are working together, in a sustainable and preemptive manner, to consider how to channel resources and assist communities.

Two of these meetings have been recorded and can be found below in English and Spanish. If you are interested in being a part of our network and exploring the possibilities of mutual assistance, please send us a message at iap (at) accountabilityproject.org or sign up to receive updates.
