Jocelyn Soto Medallo Named Deputy Director of the International Accountability Project
Jocelyn Soto Medallo has been named the Deputy Director of the International Accountability Project (IAP).
As the Director of Policy and Advocacy at IAP for more than four years, Jocelyn has led the organization’s global policy and advocacy work making gains for communities world-wide. In particular, Jocelyn has coordinated the Early Warning System — a tech and mobilization initiative to reinforce community-led development and communities’ right to information.
In her new role, Jocelyn will advise on IAP’s policy and community-led response work and manage several operational areas for the organization with the Executive Director.
“As a skilled environmental rights lawyer and activist, Jocelyn is widely recognized for her tactical intelligence and dedication to community-led decision making in development. Jocelyn has a deep understanding of the systems and practices which can cause harm and the approaches communities can use to obtain justice,” Ryan Schlief, Executive Director.
Previously, Jocelyn was a Senior Attorney at the Center for International Environmental Law in Washington, DC, where she led its policy advocacy work to ensure that development finance is rights-respecting, protects the environment, and provides remedy for communities harmed by development projects.
Jocelyn is on the Board of Directors for the Cambodian human rights organization, Equitable Cambodia. Jocelyn holds a Juris Doctorate in environmental law from Lewis and Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon.
IAP works in solidarity with communities, civil society and social movements to inform and amplify their campaigns, broaden access to information, and create spaces within and outside dominant power systems for communities to lead the development decisions that affect their lives and environment.
